Latest Stats: "12-Month" Check-Up

Ian went to see Dr. Clark today for his "12-month" check-up, even though he's over 13 months old now. The main reason for the delay is that Dr. Clark is undergoing treatment for breast cancer and has been out of the office until today. She was in good spirits, despite having to go through another course of chemotherapy. She's a great doctor and a terrific person. We wish her the best.

Ian, however, was not happy to see Dr. Clark or Nurse Yolanda. He was okay in the waiting room, but the moment we went into the exam room he burst into tears at the site of the exam table. The poor lil dude was scared and crying for virtually the entire check-up. Dr. Clark says that this is quite normal, that the 12-month check-up is when kids begin to fear doctors and remember the shots they had at previous visits. By 18 months, she says, she'll be Ian's friend again.

And there were lots of shots today, administered by Nurse Yolanda:

MMR #1: measles, mumps, and rubella
PTaP#4: diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis
HIB #4: H. influenza B

One in each leg and one in the arm.

He did not like these. Not at all.

And the latest stats are in:

Weight: 22 lbs. 10 oz., 50th percentile
Height: 30.5 in., 75th percentile
Head circumference: 18.5 cm, 50th percentile

Despite his chunky appearance, the boy is apparently tall for his weight.

Go figure.
